Shannon Goodman

President | Atlanta, GA

Shannon is executive director the Lifecycle Building Center, which accepts material donations and redirects them back into the community through resale to the public and through donations to nonprofits. Previously, Shannon spent 13 years working as an architect, most recently with Perkins+Will. After coordinating the donation of 62 tons of building materials from Perkins+Will’s Atlanta office renovation in 2009, Shannon helped formally establish LBC in 2010.

Mike Gable

Vice President | Pittsburgh, PA

Mike is the executive director of Construction Junction, Western Pennsylvania’s first nonprofit organization to collect and sell used and surplus building materials. In partnership with the Trade Institute of Pittsburgh and the Urban Design Build Studio of the Carnegie Mellon University School of Architecture, Construction Junction also hosts Project RE_ , which introduces new constituencies to the reuse movement and jobs within the industry.

Natalie Heneghan

Secretary | Minneapolis, MN

Natalie Heneghan is the Community Outreach Director at Habitat for Humanity of the Greater La Crosse Region. Natalie manages the organization's marketing, communications, and advocacy efforts. She uses storytelling and relationship-building skills to inspire people to take better care of our built environment and create equitable, sustainable communities. Natalie has over 10 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, focused on building rehab, material reuse, community education, and local housing issues. Natalie holds a BA in History from Macalester College and a Master’s in Heritage Studies and Public History from the University of Minnesota.

 

Chris Pletcher

Treasurer | Ithaca, NY

Chris is a consultant that works with reuse organizations and other social enterprises to implement point-of-sale and other operational systems, provide business analysis and help develop strategies for growth. He has experience in deconstruction, workforce development, energy efficiency, solar energy and general construction. He has a Master of Regional Planning with a focus on Economic Development. Chris believes that the reuse industry is primed to grow exponentially and wants to help Build Reuse be a facilitator of that growth.

 

Michelle Wiseman

Board Member At-Large | Atlanta, GA

Michelle Wiseman joined the Mayor’s Office of One Atlanta as the Director of Waste Diversion & Outreach in 2016 after ten years in the recycling industry. She partners with key stakeholders and internal departments, Atlanta City Council, city residents, colleges & universities, business groups, non-profits, and others to support environmental outreach and equitable development. Michelle has a strong commitment to advancing opportunities among marginalized populations such as people of color, indigenous people, those previously incarcerated, and communities with limited access and incomes. She currently serves with Atlanta Recycles, is an active member of the Georgia Recycling Coalition, and a volunteer with Change for Humanity.

 

Olivia Cashman

Board Member | Minneapolis, MN

Olivia Cashman is a Construction and Demolition Waste Specialist with Hennepin County’s Environment and Energy Department where she promotes deconstruction and building material reuse through the county’s building reuse grant program. She also oversees Hennepin County’s pre-demolition inspection program and works to reduce construction and demolition waste on county-owned projects. As the deconstruction and reuse movement continues to build in the Twin Cities, Olivia is excited to deepen connections and exchange expertise with the national Build Reuse community. Olivia has a BS in Environmental Science from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and is a volunteer with Haven Housing.

 

Kevin A. Flynn

Board Member | El Sobrante, CA

Kevin is a Forensic Wood Scientist with experience in Historic Preservation, Evaluating Degradation in wood components, and Construction Defects. Expertise includes wood properties, wood anatomy and identification, performance of wood building materials, wood decay, and in field and laboratory evaluation of wood product performance and failure. Experience includes work at the University of California Forest Products Laboratory where he worked with the Wood Building Research Center and served as the Head of the Service to Industry program. Kevin joined Build Reuse in March 2022 and likes to reduce, reuse and recycle materials.

Emily Freeman

Board Member | Boulder, CO

Emily Freeman is a Circular Economy Policy Advisor for the City of Boulder. She oversees the success of Boulder’s deconstruction ordinance which keeps carbon intensive building materials available for reuse and recycling and has achieved an average 85% diversion rate across all projects. Emily believes that we can create supportive policy mechanisms to illicit the change we want to see towards creating a circular economy that highlights the value of the built environment. She holds a Masters in Sustainability from Arizona State University.

Yarden Harari

Board Member | New York, NY

Yarden is a licensed Architect and sustainability advisor at Arcadis, working with project teams on a range of solutions in the built environment. Her collaborations on building material reuse bring people together to bridge the technical and social challenges of a circular economy. Some of her favorites include the CoLab workshop on Zero Waste, All For Reuse initiative, and crowdsourced mapping efforts that she hopes to scale with Build Reuse.

 

Daniel Kietzer

Board Member | Austin, TX

Daniel leads Ecosystem Growth at Rheaply, providing strategic, organizational and technical support to scale and create new reuse market opportunities between Rheaply clients and partners in select priority regions. He has 10+ years of experience in both the nonprofit and for-profit sectors designing and leading impact-focused circular economy and sustainability programs with forward-thinking companies and organizations across the globe.

Stephanie Phillips

Board Member | San Antonio, TX

Stephanie is a public policy professional and urban planner working at the intersection of heritage conservation and sustainability. She is the Deconstruction and Circular Economy Program Manager for the City of San Antonio Office of Historic Preservation, where she oversees the administration of the City’s deconstruction ordinance, the operation and scaling of the Material Innovation Center, and the development of strategic local partnerships to advance building material reuse.

Melissa Wenzel

Board Member | Saint Paul, MN

Melissa Wenzel is the Built Environment Sustainability Administrator at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, and has worked for the state of Minnesota for nearly 22 years. She supports organizations and individuals who work on entire building preservation and/or reuse, and building material reuse and recycling. Her current focus is on creating system-wide change within the building material management system. Working with key stakeholders across the state, Melissa focuses on reuse of buildings and building materials, and works to prevent building materials from going to landfills by encouraging preservation & renovation, reuse, and repair of buildings and building materials. She recently bought a house that was built in 1900, and lives her sustainability values throughout her personal and professional life. She has a BS in Environmental Education from the University of Minnesota. In her free time, she advocates for sustainability and climate justice around Saint Paul, and loves planting native gardens. She can also be seen e-biking around the Twin Cities in every kind of weather. She lives by her work motto: “human being first, government employee second.”

 

Our board includes representatives from private, non-profit, and public sectors, spanning reuse retail, policy, deconstruction and salvage operations, historic preservation, social justice, workforce development, and more. We are striving to build a working board that is representative of the community we serve. We're especially interested in filling spots focused on fundraising, finance, social media, policy, and legal - but we welcome anyone with an interest in fulfilling our organization's mission!
